Sometimes shock and sadness travel together

Some soap operas never end, but today a real-life drama closed on a tragic note.
If you don't know by now, former Playmate and tabloid staple Anna Nicole Smith died today. According to reports, she simply collapsed and was gone. She was only 39.
By anyone's standards, her life was a roller coaster ride.
She went from being a topless dancer in a Texas club to Playmate of the Year. A short time later, she married an elderly billionaire who died and left her a huge portion of his fortune -- the same fortune she essentially spent the rest of her life fighting for. Her husband's death sent her into a public downward spiral which transformed her from a sex symbol to a running fat joke; but she somehow parlayed that into a popular reality show. She finally lost the weight thanks to a diet drug. Yesterday, she and the company that makes the drug were named in a class-action suit. About five months ago, she gave birth to a baby girl only to have her 20-year-old son die days later. And now her daughter's paternity is being questioned.
Anna Nicole was a nearly endless source of entertainment for us celebrity watchers, but beneath it all, she was a real person. No matter how crazy and unbelievable her life was, her death is probably the most shocking thing she's done.
What do you think? Are you surprised or did you see this coming?

I liked the way you've summed up her life. I'm kinda sad that she's gone though. I think she was murdered (along with her son) and it probably has to do with money. My foremost thoughts are with her newborn baby girl...who's the dad and who'll raise her?

EXACTLY Ashley! That's the main thing that's I'm wondering about too. At first I was automatically thinking suicide or overdose on TrimSpa or something because of all of the MESS she had going on as far as lawsuits, paternity battles and such. But now I'm looking at that Howard K. Stern. It's just something fishy about how he's around when the son dies, suddenly claims paternity of the newborn baby and then all of a sudden Anna Nicole is dead too? I don't know *shaking my head* doesn't look right to me...

Ok,upon re-reading my last comment, I must clarify: I am NOT a police officer and I don't know anything about any of the characters involved in this Anna Nicole Smith saga. That said, I'm not pointing the finger at Howard K. Stern as a murder suspect or anything. We don't even know yet how she died.

Surprised? By THAT train wreck? I dont think so. I might have been surprised if she had been killed in a third world country trying to feed hungry children or aboard the space shuttle as the newest astronaut. THAT's surprising. But not this.

I suppose if my son had just died, I might die of heartbreak, too. Especially if my heart were already weakened by diet pills.

I'm with Kevan.
I think she died from that TrimSpa reacting with whatever other drug she was on. And I'll admit, I was a little surprised when I found out that she had died. I thouhgt her foolishness and drama filled life would continue to entertain us for years and years to come.
It is very sad though. It seems she had a tough life.
