I think I'm with the movie people

After taking my first direct flight from Shreveport to the final destination my trip, I realized I do have something in common with the Hollywood types around here. Movie industry folks apparently are talking with Shreveport Regional about a Shreveport-L.A. flight.

From Velda Hunter's April 11 article: "Airport officials, however, said they are still trying to land a direct flight to Los Angeles, considering the Shreveport area's apparent growing popularity in the film industry. Airport officials are talking to an airline about a western flight, but Roberts wouldn't say which airline." (Sorry I couldn't just link to this; it's past the free viewing date.)

My flight was on Allegiant to Las Vegas. I've never really been one to complain about my usual connections in Houston or Atlanta, but I never knew what I was missing.

For one thing, it's a lot harder to get your checked bag lost if it doesn't have to make it on another plane. Plus, there's no rushing to another flight. It's only about a two-and-a-half hour flight to Vegas from here. Who'd have thought?

I think airlines like Allegiant or Jet Blue that offer these kinds of flights out of smaller airports have got a good thing going. The big companies aren't offering, so why not?

Aside from the convenience for leisure travellers, it's obviously something the airport folks should look into if it can help make this area a bigger draw to the movie industry.

Thoughts on direct flight experiences?

I can tell you that Continenatl Express has been evaluating this option and has even run some flights with their EMB45x aircraft (regional jet). More than likely, whatever airline decides to service this route will be on a regional jet basis, simply because the demand to provide a high cost jet (MD-88, 737, etc.) doesn't exist.

Well here it is, I have NEVER flown out of Shreveport Regional Airport. The cost is WAY too expensive. Why is it soo expensive? That is what they need to fix first. It is cheaper for me to fly out of Longview,TX at the East Texas Regional Airport (GGG) then out of Shreveport.

I have flown direct many times. From Indianapolis, Longview, DFW, and Love Field. It is very nice. About a month ago, I took a direct flight from DFW to Indianapolis, very nice quick trip and well work the $240 dollars. TO fly out of shreveport with a layover? About $400.00.

Planes are okay but I'd like a rail system like Eurail. I'm just saying...

JC is right, to fly out of Shreve-town is crazy expensive. This spring I flew to Eastern Europe from Houston for $750. To fly from Shreveport...$1400. Call me stupid but I dont think so. I've also known people to fly from the D.C. area into Alexandria, because its cheaper than going to Shreveport. We need to investigative reporting into this!

Amen! I totally agree with jc is the man. I'm tired of searching for airline tickets that consistently cost over $350 to get to Nashville. Then I end up having to drive forever to get back home.

But I don't think I would like driving to DFW or Love Field to catch a plane. That would be too much. Paying for gas and a plane ticket is too much for my wallet.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
I just paid $500 to fly back home to the Washington, D.C. area - with an hour stop in Memphis. I can't stand it.

I tried the whole driving to another airport thing and I didn't like it. I had to calculate extra time into my trip to get to the other airport and home. And after a long flight, the last thing I want to do take a 3 hr. drive to get back home. (I flew out of DFW)

Shreveport travelers just can't win.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with pressure from the movie industry and the possibility of Cyber Command coming here, Shreveport Regional will get its act together and offer local people more options when it comes to flying.
