And the nominees are...

So, “Dreamgirls” was good enough to pick up the most Oscar nods this year, but not necessarily good enough to be a contender for Best Picture.
I don’t think I’m really surprised or disappointed about that one – Especially considering I STILL hadn’t seen the movie yet. (I know, I know - What in the world am I waiting on?)
But it also leaves “Babel,” “The Departed,” “Letters From Iwo Jima,” and “The Queen” to duke it out. (Has anyone seen any of these movies, by the way? If so, share your thoughts on them.)
But that’s not the only interesting twist in this season of Oscar.
If you haven’t heard the buzz yet, check out this story, which gives some other pretty interesting observations about this year’s nominees, though I’m not sure any of it can top the shocking images of last year’s surprise winners, Three 6 Mafia, performing their Oscar-winning hit “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.” (I’m still scratching my head on that one…) Anyway, don’t forget to tune in to the 79th Annual Academy Awards on Feb. 25.

I can't understand why you're "scratching your head" about Triple Six winning last year for best original song. The concept of pimps and prostitues is horrendous but the song makes lots of sense and gives another side to the age old duo of pimps and hoes.

I love the song.

And, The Departed is an awesome movie. I saw it--twice. I don't know if it should win best picture though. I hear Two Letters from Iwo Jima is awesome.

Whew, where do I start? Well, one reason I'm scratching my head in general because it's hard (and HILARIOUS) to imagine the Academy members bobbing their heads to "It's Hard Out There For A Pimp" in mulling over their choices for the winner.
Secondly, it's almost comical when you consider how many countless African American Oscar nominees have been passed over for decades(I mean, you can probably STILL count the number of African American winners on one hand) for movies, yet the one that wins is a song about pimps and hoes. At the least, it's just kinda mind boggling to me in a who-woulda-thunk-it kinda way. But then again, I've never really been into the song either, so maybe that's where my head scratching comes from.

yeah, I can see that. Who woulda thought? In tennessee (you know Triple 6 is from Memphis) everyone was excited. My phone rang all through the night about them winning. I had a million text messages too.

We had a party at my last job and we had a karoke contest where the participants had to take a song and change the lyrics to reporter/editor/work related lyrics. We had a week to work on it.

Jonathan and I changed "It's hard out here for a pimp." I sung the hook. We won the contest.

Sorry, wasn't trying to calling you out on "Little Miss Sunshine." But rent it!
